Well, it was everything you would hope for in a Christmas day matchup. LeBron James vs. Kevin Durant, and it lived up to the hype. LeBron finished with 29 Points 8 Boards and 9 Assists to lead the Heat.

Moron.

Does Miami have a chance? As a Heat fan I would sure like to think so.

Winning the first 2 games the Heat looked in control of this series early. To be honest I thought the Celtics would be lucky to win 2 games in this series, I really thought 1 was more likely. The Heat just seemed far and away the better team.

So what happened? Good question.

The Heat went to Boston and started digging themselves in holes early, to the tune of 18 points. Its tough to beat a good team like Boston, but  it is even tougher when you dig yourself a hole that big. The Heat who sometimes struggle with stagnant offensive fell into that same groove. They are not a jump shooting team, that is simply not the way they are built. Doc Rivers would throw a zone defense at the Heat and they simply have not been able to beat that in the 2 years that this team has been put together. The zone makes you take jump shots and prevents the drive to the basket which is what the Heat have relied on.

So what happens next?

Well I think the Heat respond. Great teams can overcome adversity. Going into a win or go home game in Boston I expect LeBron James to take over this game. I think it takes a 40 point 15 rebound game to set the tone and get the job done on the road.

No excuses, as the great Al Davis once said “Just Win Baby!”

The once unstoppable San Antonio Spurs have come crashing down to Earth as their phenomenal 20 game win streak has transformed into a sloppy three game losing streak. I’m not usually one to get caught up in superstitions or anything of the sort, but when it comes to sports you have to be. I wrote an article praising the Spurs and their abilities just prior to game 3 of the series. About an hour afterward, the Spurs and Thunder tipped off for what would ultimately be a 20-point route of the men I had just finished commending.

Tim Duncan (4), Tony Parker (3), and Manu Ginobli (3) have a combined 10 NBA Championships.

Since that day, the Spurs have games 4 and 5 but only by a combined 11 points. Even down 3-2 in this series, there is no doubt that the Spurs have the ability to get this done. The Spurs are a veteran team with the experience and history that you want this late in the playoffs. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobli have a combined 10 rings, so they know what it takes to win.

Kendrick Perkins and Derek Fisher aside, no one on Oklahoma City’s roster has any jewelry. But the Thunder are younger, faster, and, quite frankly, more fun to watch. Kevin Durant is averaging over 27 points per game this series and has shown no signs of slowing down. When point guard Russell Westbrook is playing selfless basketball, there is very little opposing defenses can do.

Quite frankly, I don’t care who wins this series. I feel strongly that the Thunder will close it out tonight, but, if they don’t, we can all expect some serious fireworks in game 7. Regardless, I’ve got the Thunder playing the Celtics for a shot at the title when all is said and done.

Tip-off for game six is tonight at 9:00pm on TNT.

Tom Coughlin has won two Super Bowls in his eight years with the New York Giants.

Ok, honestly, the Giants only signed him through 2014 but I think we would all be surprised if Tom is still able to talk without urinating on himself by the end of this contract.

Since becoming a head coach in 1995 for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tom Coughlin has had his fair share of successes but with little recognition. His 142-114 (.555) is certainly nothing to be sniffed at. Going 12-7 for his career in the playoffs, Coughlin has coached the Giants to two Super Bowls (2007 & 2011). In both appearances he faced a highly favored New England Patriots team and both times he came out ahead.

There are few coaches out there whose successes are as overlooked as Coughlin’s. The Giants have all the pieces and, with Coughlin coming back, there is no reason for them not to be expected to playing well into the playoffs.

Tom Coughlin’s contract will keep him as head coach through the 2014 season but the terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.
