Morris Claiborne was selected 6th overall by the Dallas Cowboys.

You can never have too much of a good thing and that rule really holds true in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys made some serious moves in the draft and jumped up to take CB Morris Claiborne (51 tackles, 6 INTs as a senior) out of LSU with the 6th overall pick. That selection paired with the signing of former KC Chief CB, Brandon Carr (45 tackles, 4 INTs in 2011) means that the Cowboys will have three corners that could easily be the #1 on any other squad.

Mike Jenkins made it clear that once the Cowboys drafted Claiborne he wanted out. But Jerry Jones has made it clearer that he has no intention of trading him any time soon. In a league that has gone pass happy over the last few years, it is no surprise that Jerry Jones wants to form the greatest secondary possible.  And let’s not forget about the 4th man on the roster, Orlando Scandrick (49 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT in 2011), who just signed an extension through 2017.

Despite having a poor performance last year (24 tackles, 1 INT in 12 games) there is no denying that Jenkins makes them better defensively and, with QB Tony Romo having a tendency for turning the ball over, defense may just be where the Cowboys want to keep their focus. Especially considering they will be forced to face Michael Vick, Eli Manning, and the brand new Robert Griffin, III a total of six times this season.

If Jenkins can return to his 2009 form (49 tackles, 5 INTs), or even show flashes of the way he played back then, the Cowboys will surely shut down the passing game against all of their opponents. Maybe this will finally be the Cowboy’s year (eventually it has to be, right?)
